A concept for a monumental sculpture for Lalav Group in Erbil, drawn from the curves of the company's logo and of Arabic calligraphy.
The sculpture grows out of one flowing line. The line is turned into strips, the strips are given more curvature, and the strips are set at different angles so the form seems to move even when it stands still.
From a line to a form
Strips out of curves
The starting point is the single flowing line of the company's logo. It is turned into strips with width, so the line becomes a surface.
Proportions
Ellipses set up the proportions of the shape: a tall pair of leaves above, a wide pair below, overlapping where the strips cross.
The curves of calligraphy
Each curve is multiplied and given more curvature, inspired by the curves of Al Thuluth, a style of Arabic calligraphy.
Two material options
Option 1: travertine stone. Option 2: gold plating.
