Bio Coloumn

is a project that explores the beauty and complexity of natural patterns in wood while simulating the forces that exist inside a cubic column. As an artist and a designer, I aim to create a visually stunning and informative experience that allows the audience to understand the forces that exist inside a solid object and how these forces can be optimized through the process of subtractive manufacturing.

To create the Biocoloumn, I start with a large block of wood and carefully carve away layers to reveal the natural patterns that exist within. Each layer is analyzed and optimized to ensure that the column remains stable and strong while still maintaining its unique beauty. By unrolling layer after layer, the audience can see how the forces within the column change as material is removed.

As a maker, I use the latest in manufacturing technology to ensure that each layer is precisely cut to reveal the natural patterns of the wood. This allows me to create a column that is not only visually stunning but also optimized for strength and stability. The result is a piece that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Through the Biocoloumn project, I hope to encourage people to see the beauty in natural patterns and to explore the possibilities of subtractive manufacturing. By working with the natural materials of wood, we can create functional objects that are also works of art. The Biocoloumn is an example of this, as it showcases the natural patterns of the wood while also being optimized for strength and stability.
